FERN, 2023

This is a wet cyanotype that was laid out in the sun for six hours. I laid ferns in the middle as well as soap suds, turmeric, and sea salt to create texture. I chose to leave this piece raw and purposely did not finish the traditional cyanotype process of soaking it in water. Instead, this piece will continue to be exposed and eventually fade away. Another name for it is "living art." It represents the fleetingness of nature and how we need to take action to preserve the delicacy of the natural world before it's too late.

"Fern" was featured in the group exhibition titled "Echoes of the Anthropocene" July 24th-28th, 2023, DAAP.

Artists included: Esra Kanisicak, Madison Ashe, Rissy Fabiilli, Madelyn McArthur, Emily Chapin.
